About Hamilton Health Center

 

Hamilton Health Center has been providing quality medical care to residents of the greater Harrisburg area and Capital Region since 1969. Hamilton provides care to more than 30,000 men, women, and children with over 100,000 medical, dental, and behavioral health visits each year and serves more than 6,500 women and children through the WIC Program. Through our one-stop, state-of-the-art Medical Mall on 17th Street we offer an onsite pharmacy (The Medicine Shoppe), Imaging/X-rays and Mammograms via UPMC and an on-site Quest Laboratory. In addition we have:

  • an active HIV testing, treatment and counselling program.
  • a Health Resource Center dedicated to the sexual health of our teens.
  • the Center of Excellence program addressing the opioid crisis.
  • Baby Love which assists families with issues of substance abuse and addiction.

Hamilton has additional locations at Foose and Downey elementary schools and have added sites in Harrisburg (Union Deposit Family Practice), In Millersburg (Hamilton FamilyCare at Millersburg) and in Newport (Hamilton Health Center of Perry County).

About the Medical Externship

Externs under the medical assistant role will be placed in Women’s Health Service, Adult Medicine or Pediatric departments. A day as a Medical Assistant would consist of greeting patients, obtaining patient vitals i.e. blood pressure, weight, height, temperature and pulse, review of patient s medical records, assist Provider, working with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate medication, referrals etc. and other duties. To earn a position students must have successfully completed the Penn Foster MA program and passed the NHA exam. They will also need to complete 10 hours in person skills labs with Hamilton Health Center

Students will not be paid during this experience.
